Our History

Routenburn Golf Course officially opened in 1914 and continues to provide affordable golf and breathtaking views of Arran, the Cumbraes and beyond.

European Tour and Ryder Cup legend Sam Torrance honed his craft here, under the tuition of his father Bob Torrance, himself a leading golf tutor and mentor to many of today’s leading golfers.

Sam turned professional in 1970 before going on to become a leading player on the European Tour, a regular member of Europe’s Ryder Cup Team and the winning 2001 Ryder Cup Captain. He continues to be a leading contender on the European Seniors Tour.

Whilst our course measures just under 5,500 yards, you will find each hole provides an unique challenge. From sloping greens, to blind tee shots, Routenburn has it all. Golfers of all abilities enjoy the tricky par 3’s, testing par 4’s and deceptively difficult par 5’s, however breaking par of 68 is never an easy task... just ask our members!

Present Day

Routenburn golf clubhouse

BRITAIN’S biggest lottery winners have shown their kindness yet again – this time with a £70,000 gift to their local golf club.

The cash from Colin and Chris Weir, who won a £161million Euro Millions jackpot, will allow Routenburn Golf Club in Largs, Ayrshire, to buy their clubhouse from the council.

The Routenburn course is an asset for Largs that must be safeguarded. We hope this fantastic course, club and clubhouse can enjoy 100 more years of success.

The club, where Sam Torrance learned his skills, celebrate their 100th birthday in 2014 and Colin and Chris hope their gift will help them prosper for the next century and beyond.

The couple said: "As this venerable course reaches its centenary, it seemed vital that the club were supported to buy the clubhouse".

"The Routenburn course is an asset for Largs that must be safeguarded. We hope this fantastic course, club and clubhouse can enjoy 100 more years of success."

The Clubhouse purchase was completed on the 25th July 2017

Thanks again to Colin & Chris.
